Since I was a teenager I've always been keen on Woodwork, though now I can afford to indulge myself more than I could at that stage in my life. I inherited many woodworking tools from my father, and by adding to these over the years have built up an extremely well-equipped workshop, which you can see if you click here, in the garage of my home.
I'll turn my hand to making anything, but my biggest interest is in making classical guitars, one of which is pictured here. Each instrument takes hundreds of hours to produce, as you begin with materials which are straight from the sawmill and convert this into something which is an object of beauty. Some of the woods used are very exotic, such as Honduras mahogany, Indian rosewood, ebony, fine-grained spruce, Malayan jelutong, red cedar, willow and sycamore.
Currently I am working on my present guitar making project, and you can follow the progress in these photographs.
I have thought for some time of making a harpsichord, but as I don't actually play a keyboard instrument I may or may not get around to doing this. It would certainly be quite a challenge!
